DULL SKIN

Dull skin is a common complaint in dermatology OPD.

Reasons:

  • Buildup of dead cells
  • Dry skin
  • Dehydration
  • Ageing
  • Uneven complexion

Consistently our skin exfoliates on its own and new cells are produced. If this exfoliation fails build-up of cells occurs and leads to rough skin and dull skin.

Genetically some people have dry skin. In this medical condition, it is important to use mild face cleanser and application of emollients is recommended.

Not drinking enough water can lead to decrease in the water content of skin wrinkles and fine lines appear more prominent and skin looks dry and dull.

Ageing leads to loss of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule which attracts water into the skin and makes it look smooth and supple. Accordingly anti-aging procedures would help.

Expose to Sun leads to free radicals in the skin which damage healthy skin cells and stimulate pigment cells to produce more pigment. This leads to tan, uneven complexion and dry skin. Applying sunscreen diligently helps in this case.
